Walking into my English Composition II class Monday morning
I never expected to be encouraged to join social media and that our whole class
would focus on this vast topic. Our first paper is going to be about one of the
social media sites. Before this class the only way I was social online was
occasionally posting on Facebook and looking through Pinterest. Now I am trying
to figure out the world of Twitter and have set up my own blog. I'm becoming so
social it's scaring me a little bit. Most of my friends have an account on
Twitter, but I never was truly interested in it before this class. Now I can't
stop myself from wanting to tweet everything. I feel so special following my
favorite celebrities and artists, their posts pop up in my feed and I get
excited. I can see how so many people are addicted to Twitter, I'll be working
on homework and next thing I know I'm scrolling through my Twitter feed or
tweeting myself. I will look around the room and see almost everyone on their smart phones or laptops and I am almost positive all of them are on some social media site. I have to wonder if social media is taking over our society, a group of people could be sitting together in a room and everyone is on their cellphones and not talking to each other. Is social media a good way to communicate or is it taking away in-person interaction? I'm going to find out. Let me know what you think!
